A 40-year-old man injured in a jump from a height in Minsk has developed cerebral edema. He was also diagnosed with a severe spinal cord injury and fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine. Ivan Bartashevich, head of the intensive care unit at Minsk City Clinical Emergency Hospital, said this in an interview with ONT.
“The patient fell while attached to a safety rope. The rope broke, but it managed to cushion the fall, which resulted in severe but non-fatal injuries. The patient was conscious when admitted, but against the background of traumatic shock and severe injuries, he developed cerebral edema. The patient has a very severe spinal cord injury, as well as severe fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine,” he said.
As a reminder, the incident occurred on October 13. According to preliminary information, a 36-year-old individual entrepreneur who provides extreme jumping services from heights, known as rope jumping, was preparing the site to receive customers. His 40-year-old acquaintance was helping him install and adjust the equipment. The man decided to jump himself and secured the safety equipment on his own. Due to improperly secured knots, the man fell to the ground and sustained multiple injuries.
The Investigative Committee is establishing the circumstances of the incident.
