In Pinsk, officers of the OMON riot police unit of the Brest Regional Police Department held tactical drills with territorial units of the internal affairs bodies. They practiced joint actions in the event of mass unrest and measures to suppress it.
“Under the guidance of OMON instructors, law enforcement officers practiced the use of special equipment and the deployment of formations necessary to cordon off, disperse and suppress unlawful actions by groups of offenders,” the Brest Regional Police Department said in a press release.
According to Viktar Tamulevich, commander of the OMON unit of the regional police department, the main purpose of the drills is to assess the readiness of the units and practice their coordination in containing and suppressing mass unrest.
Uladzislau Zhminchuk, deputy head of the public order and prevention department of the public security police at the regional police department, noted that such exercises are conducted on a regular basis.
“Training under the guidance of OMON officers allows law enforcement personnel to remain in constant combat readiness and effectively counter any security threats,” he said.
