The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said that, together with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the country’s Defense Ministry, it had prevented an assassination attempt on a Russian opposition leader who had arrived in Ukraine for the country’s Independence Day.
According to the SBU, the attack was being prepared by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
The politician was not named, and details of the operation were not disclosed. The statement said that operational and investigative measures are ongoing.
