Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou does not rule out the possibility that US presidential special envoy John Coale could visit Belarus before the end of the year. He said this in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
According to the foreign minister, relations between the two countries are so “dynamic” that anything can be expected.
Ryzhankou said Belarus is discussing supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers with Coale. According to the foreign minister, Coale has far more issues on his agenda than the release of political prisoners “in response to some tearful requests from the European Union.” He said the two sides are finding an increasing number of “points of common interest.”
“You mentioned the issue of potash fertilizers — that is also one of the topics under discussion. But again, not at the expense of our relations with Russia,” he said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Washington was working on a “major deal” to purchase potash fertilizers from Belarus. The US president’s special envoy last visited Minsk on September 15. He met with Aliaksandr Lukashenka. As a result of the talks, 25 people were released. They were taken from Belarus to Lithuania.
