Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou continued his meetings on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. His counterparts were representatives of North Korea and Cuba.
Ryzhankou discussed the opening of a Belarusian embassy in Pyongyang with North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Son Gyong. The sides noted the qualitatively new level their relations have reached. They also discussed the implementation of agreements reached during Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s visit to North Korea.
Ryzhankou and Kim Son Gyong agreed to step up efforts to complete work on an agreement on visa-free travel for citizens of the two countries.
During a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Ryzhankou reaffirmed Belarus’s unwavering support for the Cuban people. He expressed serious concern over the situation surrounding Cuba. According to Ryzhankou, Minsk continues to provide humanitarian assistance to Havana. In September, another shipment of humanitarian aid, including powdered milk and medicines, was delivered to the island.
Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla briefed Ryzhankou on economic reforms being carried out by the Cuban leadership to overcome the consequences of the country’s fuel blockade.
