The Russian Foreign Ministry has once again decided to remind Minsk of security guarantees in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine. During an interview with TASS, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin was asked about the “risk of armed provocations by Ukraine.”
“We are, of course, taking such risks into account. In June, certain representatives of the Kyiv regime indeed made unfounded threats against brotherly Belarus. Moreover, these aggressive statements were supported at the European Commission level by its official representative, Hipper”, Galuzin replied.
He then decided to recall the security guarantees under the Union State and the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system.
“We regard such plans by Kyiv and its European sponsors as yet another indication of the Ukrainian junta’s lack of interest in establishing peace in the region and its desire to expand the geography of hostilities by drawing neighboring countries into the conflict.
Any attempts to destabilize the situation or carry out provocations against our ally will be regarded as an encroachment on the entire Union State. Since March 2025, the Treaty on Security Guarantees within the Union State has been in force between Russia and Belarus. It establishes a clear mechanism for a joint response to any actions that may be classified as a threat to the sovereignty, territorial integrity or constitutional order of either party. In accordance with the spirit and letter of this agreement, the security of Russia and Belarus is indivisible, and any external encroachment on one of the allies is automatically regarded as a challenge to the entire Union State.
Within the unified defense space, the joint Regional Grouping of Troops (Forces) and the Unified Air Defense System are operating successfully. Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons were deployed in Belarus in 2024, and Oreshnik missile systems were deployed at the end of 2025. Joint military exercises to improve combat readiness are held as planned. In 2025, various scenarios for repelling aggression against the Union State were practiced as part of the large-scale Zapad-2025 exercises. On May 21, the first joint exercises on the command and control of strategic and tactical nuclear forces were held.
We hope that our Western partners will have enough common sense to restrain the Volodymyr Zelenskyy regime from provocations that could lead to irreversible consequences for the European continent”, he continued.
