Rights Defenders Report Searches Of Relatives Of Coordination Council Candidates

Human rights defenders have learned of several cases of searches conducted at the homes of relatives of individuals who have put themselves forward as candidates for the Coordination Council this year. This was reported by the Viasna Human Rights Centre. No further details were provided.

Elections to the Coordination Council are scheduled to take place from May 11 to 17. Earlier, the KGB designated the following electoral lists as “extremist formations”:

• “Your Voice”,
• “Nastup”,
• “Hopić Bajatstsa” / “Stop Being Afraid!”,
• “United Civic Platform”,
• “Volia Movement”,
• “Bloc of Belarusian Political Prisoners ‘Belarusians of Action’”.

It should be noted that the KGB had also designated electoral lists in the 2024 Coordination Council elections as “extremist formations”.
