Putin Proposes Meeting With Trump And Xi Jinping — WSJ

Russia has proposed holding a meeting next month between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. The meeting would focus on discussing Ukraine but would not include the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Wall Street Journal reports, citing a former Russian intelligence officer.

According to the source, Putin made the proposal during a conversation with Trump on October 9. The two also reached an agreement on diesel fuel supplies during that call.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed to the WSJ that the idea had been discussed. He said there was no clear understanding of the meeting itself or its potential agenda, although all three parties acknowledged the hypothetical possibility of holding such a meeting.

A US official told the newspaper that Trump had not agreed to such a meeting but might be receptive to the idea, given his desire to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. Trump had promised to end the war within 24 hours, but more than a year and a half has passed since he took office.

The meeting could take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, scheduled for November 18–19 in China.
