Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, answering questions about the expected visit by US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, chose to reiterate that the Russian president’s position remains unchanged.
“I would not announce anything at this point. But when these contacts take place, we will inform you,” Peskov said.
According to him, Moscow will not take any additional measures to ensure their security. At the same time, he believes the United States itself could make a request to Kyiv.
“The Americans will probably demand that the Ukrainians stop their terrorist activities,” Peskov said.
He also allowed for the possibility that a peace process could begin as a result, but said Russia’s position would remain unchanged.
“Yes, there is such a possibility; we cannot rule out the prospect of eventually moving toward a peaceful settlement. But there are no specific prerequisites for that yet, unfortunately. The work continues, and the contacts continue,” he said.
“There is still, so to speak, the goodwill of the Americans, who are ready to continue their mediation efforts. We remain ready to move toward a peaceful settlement and to achieving our goals through peaceful means. The position of the Russian Federation that Putin outlined at the Foreign Ministry two years ago remains unchanged. They know this perfectly well in Kyiv,” Peskov added.
