Gomel customs officers thwarted two attempts to illegally transport pears to Russia, the State Customs Committee reports.
Truck drivers working for a Belarusian transport company presented documents declaring fresh carrots. However, during inspections, customs officers discovered consignments of pears without documents or phytosanitary certificates hidden behind the declared vegetables.
The 40 tonnes of pears are estimated to be worth more than 270,000 roubles.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated under Article 13.12 of the Code of Administrative Offences (violation of goods transportation procedures). The article provides for a fine of up to 50% of the value of the предмет of the administrative offence.
