Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan does not consider the presence of a Russian military base in Armenia vital. He said that if Russia decides to withdraw it, Yerevan will not object, but is also ready to discuss a continued Russian presence.
During a briefing, Pashinyan was asked whether he had discussed the withdrawal of Russian troops with Putin in Bishkek.
“We have never raised the issue of the Russian 102nd military base located in Armenia during this period, and we do not consider the presence of the 102nd military base on the territory of Armenia a vital necessity. If Russia decides to withdraw the military base from the Republic of Armenia, we will not object, but if they express a desire to remain, we are ready to discuss that as well, but we have never raised this issue during this period”, he said, News.am reports.
The Russian 102nd Military Base is located in Gyumri. It has been operating since 1995. In 2011, its presence was extended until 2044.
