Packs of Cigarettes and Wood Shavings Found Near Belarusian Border in Lithuania

Lithuanian border guards found 16 packages of cigarettes near the Belarusian border that no one came to collect.

On the evening of Sunday, October 4, border guards using technical surveillance equipment spotted unidentified individuals throwing packages over a fence from the Belarusian side near the village of Zhaltūnai in the Šalčininkai District.

The border guards arrived at the scene and found packages containing Belarusian NZ Gold cigarettes. During a search of the surrounding area, they found more identical packages filled with wood shavings, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reports.

A total of 4,000 packs of cigarettes were seized. Their value was estimated at €22,080. A pre-trial investigation has been launched.
