Several Russian regions came under a massive attack involving drones and missiles overnight on November 7. Industrial facilities and residential buildings were damaged in Oryol and Saratov. Astra reported fires at the Proton-Electrotex electronic components plant and the Saratov Oil Refinery.
According to a statement by Russia’s Defence Ministry, air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 411 Ukrainian drones. According to the ministry, the drones were intercepted over the Bryansk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Saratov, Samara and Tula regions, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
Oryol Region Governor Andrey Klychkov said that air defence forces destroyed three missiles and two drones overnight. The attack partially damaged warehouse and production facilities belonging to commercial enterprises in Oryol, as well as three private houses in the region’s districts. The governor said the resulting fire had been extinguished and there were no casualties.
Based on an analysis of eyewitness video footage, Astra identified the site of the fire as the Proton-Electrotex plant in Oryol.
The plant manufactures semiconductor devices, LEDs and electronic components for industry and specialised equipment. According to the Ukrainian side, its products are used in Russian weapons, including Iskander-M missiles and Pantsir-S1 air defence systems.
The facility has been targeted before. A strike and fire on October 23 killed five people and injured another 19.
Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin reported damage to civilian infrastructure following the drone attack. He said several residential buildings in Saratov had been damaged. No fatalities were reported, while injuries were reported preliminarily. City administration staff were dispatched to assess the damage. An emergency response centre was set up in Saratov’s Zavodskoy District to assist residents.
According to Astra, the Saratov Oil Refinery, owned by Rosneft, caught fire during the overnight attack. The outlet said it identified the location of the fire by analysing eyewitness video footage. The Saratov refinery is one of Russia’s oldest oil processing facilities. In 2023, it processed 4.8 million tonnes of oil. The plant has previously been targeted by Ukrainian attacks on several occasions and temporarily suspended operations due to damage.
According to the outlet, an Econom-Avto car parts store on Azina Street in Saratov was also damaged. The outlet’s analysts determined that a drone exploded directly next to the building. The store is located about two kilometres from the oil refinery.
There were also injuries and damage in Belgorod Region following drone attacks. According to the regional emergency response centre, a drone struck an apartment building in Belgorod. A man sustained multiple shrapnel wounds to his face. He received medical assistance at the scene and declined hospitalisation. The attack also caused a fire in two apartments in one of the residential buildings.
In the city of Novy Oskol, a drone struck a commercial building. A man sustained shrapnel wounds to his face, head and arms. After receiving medical assistance, he continued treatment on an outpatient basis.
In addition, a man was seriously injured in a drone attack in the village of Solokhi in Belgorod District. He was taken to Belgorod City Hospital No. 2. Another man was injured in Grayvoron and taken to the district hospital. In the village of Rzhevka in Shebekino District, two more men were wounded in FPV drone attacks.
Regional authorities reported damage to residential buildings, vehicles, administrative and social facilities, and infrastructure in several settlements across the region.
