Next Academic Year in Belarusian Army Declared Year of Countering Drones

The next academic year in the Belarusian Armed Forces will focus on improving the system for countering unmanned aerial systems. Defence Minister Viktar Khrenin made the announcement at an operational meeting of the command staff, which concluded with a session of the ministry’s board, reports.

Khrenin reviewed the army’s combat training results for the 2025/2026 academic year and outlined objectives for the next period.

Among the priorities, he identified improving the combat readiness of individual units, particularly those that must be prepared to carry out missions at short notice “in areas and sections of terrain where the situation could escalate, as well as where military force could be used against the Republic of Belarus.”

The plans also include forming new units and introducing modern means of warfare, including capabilities to counter precision-guided weapons, drones and information attacks.

Other tasks identified by the minister include training military command bodies, troops and officers; keeping weapons and military equipment combat-ready; and increasing army staffing levels. To attract more personnel, the ministry plans to improve measures aimed at raising the prestige of military service, the social status of military personnel and citizens’ motivation to serve in the armed forces and officer corps.
