Nauseda: We Have a Clear Understanding of What Is Happening in Belarus

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda reaffirmed the country’s position on sanctions against Belarusian potash. He said that Vilnius has a clear understanding of what is happening in Belarus.

“We have our position, and we have stated it. In some cases, it is aligned with the EU’s position. The same ban on the export of Belarusian fertilizers is in effect at the EU level. It has been extended for 12 months; we will return to the issue at the beginning of next year, when Lithuania holds the presidency of the Council of the EU,” he said, Delfi reports.

Earlier, media reported on an attempt by U.S. representatives to influence Belarus’ neighboring countries on the issue.

The Lithuanian president stressed that Vilnius has a clear understanding of what is happening in Belarus.

“We have a clear understanding of what is happening in Belarus. We have not put on rose-colored glasses through which we would like to see a beautiful Lukashenka. We see him as he is. As for what is happening in Belarusian airspace, it seems to me that sometimes we assume that Belarus controls its own airspace,” he said.

Yesterday, U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Coale announced the lifting of additional sanctions on Belarusian enterprises. At the same time, 25 political prisoners were released in Belarus. They were taken to Lithuania.

After returning from Minsk, Coale met in Vilnius with the Lithuanian president and prime minister.
