Mobile Network Capacity to Increase by 30%

The Ministry of Communications expects to increase mobile network capacity by 30% by the end of the year. Pavel Tkach, first deputy minister of communications and informatisation, said this on CTV.

“By the end of this year, we forecast that the capacity of our network will increase by approximately 30%”, he said.

According to him, part of the frequency bands previously used for digital television was cleared in cooperation with Russia for this purpose. They were transferred to mobile operators. Equipment used by special users was also moved to other frequency bands. Additional frequencies are being allocated.

“Following the results of last year, we conducted measurements along all our main M-class highways. And, in principle, our communications are quite good. A decision was made, and amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences were introduced this year. The government approved the quality requirements on December 31 last year.

Accordingly, last year we had a mandatory requirement to ensure that M-class roads were covered in accordance with the relevant parameters we measure: coverage and internet speed. And one of our operators, unfortunately, according to the conclusion of the Belarusian State Telecommunications Inspectorate, failed to meet these requirements.

The materials were referred to the court. This is our first precedent. The fine was 100 base units for now. A deadline has been set to eliminate the causes — by the end of the current year. If they are not eliminated, the materials will be referred to the court again. And repeated penalties will be imposed until the operator addresses the issue”, the deputy minister said.
