Collins Mnangagwa, the son of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, underwent treatment for drug addiction in Belarus, Zimbabwean outlet ZimLive reports.
“Collins Mnangagwa was recently sent to Belarus for rehabilitation after he allegedly got hooked on drugs which the family accuses Tafirenyika of plying him with,” the outlet reported.
According to the journalists, Collins Mnangagwa became addicted to drugs because of his second wife, Kelsea Tadiwa Tafirenyika.
On Aug. 5, the 22-year-old appeared in court for a bail hearing in a drug trafficking case. During searches of her home and vehicle on Aug. 4, police found pethidine, morphine and cannabis. The drugs were valued at $204.
According to ZimLive, Zimbabwe’s First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa personally demanded Tafirenyika’s arrest and also intends to seek the return of several houses that she claims the young woman purchased with her son’s money and without his knowledge.
The report does not specify when Collins Mnangagwa underwent treatment in Belarus. However, in May this year, Emmerson Mnangagwa unexpectedly traveled to Belarus on an unannounced visit. At the time, rumors circulated in Zimbabwe that he had allegedly brought gold bars to Belarus. It is possible that he also brought his son to Minsk during that visit.
Collins Mnangagwa has visited Belarus at least once before. In 2023, he traveled to Minsk with his mother and his twin brother, Sean. They met with Foreign Minister Siarhei Aleinik and businessman Aliaksandr Zingman.
Collins Mnangagwa studied in China before co-founding the gold mining company ZimCN Investments with a Chinese partner. Local media have accused the president’s son of intimidating judges and smuggling gold.
