A pawnshop employee in Minsk is accused of embezzling more than 125,000 rubles. According to information from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 30-year-old woman from Mahiliou drew up fictitious microloan agreements and pawn tickets, then spent the stolen money on bets at online casinos.
According to the case materials, the woman worked as a commodities expert at a pawnshop in the capital during the first half of 2026. During that period, she drew up more than 30 fictitious agreements, entering knowingly false information into the organisation’s software. The employee then took money from the cash register and destroyed the forged pawn tickets. A shortfall of more than 125,000 rubles was discovered during a routine stocktake.
The accused spent the stolen funds on online casino bets, hoping to win back her losses and return the money. A forensic psychiatric examination found that she suffers from a mental disorder in the form of pathological gambling.
During the preliminary investigation, the woman fully admitted her guilt and expressed remorse, but did not compensate the organisation for the damage caused.
She has been charged under Part 4 of Article 211 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement of property on an especially large scale).
The prosecutor upheld the previously imposed preventive measure requiring her not to leave the country and to comply with proper conduct requirements. The case has been referred to court.
