Ministry of Economy Outlines Key Investment Projects

Belarus attracted $2.2 billion in net foreign direct investment in the first quarter of this year, the highest quarterly figure in the past 10 years. Economy Minister Yury Chabatar said this at a seminar for diplomats.

“Over 10 years of development, the Great Stone Industrial Park has registered 173 resident companies. They were established by founders from 15 countries. One-third of them joined over the past year and a half. Declared investment totals $1.6 billion, and 4,000 new jobs have been created.

More than 420 resident companies with investors from over 30 countries operate in Belarus’ six free economic zones. Together, they have invested around $15 billion in project implementation,” he added.

Chabatar also noted that new mechanisms to support investors are in demand.

“Four investment agreements worth a total of 2.8 billion Belarusian rubles have been signed in the areas of fish processing, dairy production and processing, and the development of telecommunications infrastructure.

Thirty-eight preferential investment projects worth 2 billion Belarusian rubles are being implemented, and this instrument is already being used by foreign investors as well,” he said.
