The prosecutor’s office has sent a criminal case against three people involved in transporting migrants to court. They have been charged with fraud, usurpation of authority and organizing illegal migration.
According to the prosecution, in one of the episodes, one of the defendants brought several migrants to a prearranged location in Svislach District. An accomplice dressed as a border guard was waiting for them there.
“Under the pretext of conducting a personal search, the fake border guard ordered the foreign nationals to leave the vehicle and put their belongings and savings into his accomplice’s car. After taking possession of the migrants’ money and property worth a total of almost 1,500 rubles, the defendants fled,” the prosecutor’s office said.
On another occasion, one of the defendants transported five foreign nationals from Maladzyechna to Svislach District for $350. He also bought and handed them a shovel and two bolt cutters. The foreigners were ultimately unable to cross the border. They were detained by Belarusian border guards.
The defendants remain under a written undertaking not to leave the country.
