The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) found that the Hrodna University Clinic applied a profitability rate of 960% when calculating the tariff for an unregulated medical service. According to information from the ministry, the service in question is intravitreal administration of medication on weekends and public holidays. The clinic introduced the paid service to improve access to medical care.
Patients requiring the procedure must pay an additional 280 roubles for the administration of the medication, which itself costs between 400 and 500 roubles. MART noted that the conditions “age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and central retinal vein thrombosis” are more commonly diagnosed in people aged 50–70.
To establish justified tariffs, the ministry sent the information to the Ministry of Health. The ministry was asked to analyse the cost of similar services at other healthcare institutions and take the necessary measures.
In addition, MART checked the prices of 123 medicines listed on tabletka.by. Prices for approximately 100 items remained unchanged compared with the previous month, while prices for some medicines fell by 0.1–6.7%. The monitoring results were also forwarded to the Ministry of Health.
