Malian Woman Tried to Leave Belarus Using Her Cousin’s Passport

A Malian citizen attempted to enter Poland from Belarus using her cousin’s passport because her own passport did not contain a visa, the State Border Committee reports.

On the evening of October 8, a woman arrived at the Brest border checkpoint and presented a Malian passport for inspection. Border guards found the document suspicious. An examination established that the passport did not belong to her.

The woman was a citizen of Mali. She explained that she wanted to travel to France but did not have a visa. She therefore took her cousin’s passport and attempted to leave for Poland.

The woman has been detained. Administrative proceedings have been initiated over an attempted illegal border crossing. She faces a fine of up to 100 basic units, as well as potential criminal liability for knowingly using a forged document.
