Aliaksandr Lukashenka traveled to the Shklou district today, where he reprimanded officials over poorly harvested fiber flax and demanded that more potatoes be planted.
The first episode occurred shortly after his helicopter landed in a field belonging to the “Haviady-Agra” farm, where flax was being cultivated.
“Did you want to show how not to work? You should go to prison for this. Is this how you harvest flax? Disgusting. I didn’t expect this from you,” he said, addressing Anatol Isachenka, chairman of the Mahiliou Regional Executive Committee.
“And I would advise you to stop engaging in theory and start dealing with concrete matters. This is terrible, a nightmare. We’ll look into it. This must not happen. Flax — did you harvest it here? You ruined it here,” he said to Minister of Agriculture and Food Yury Horlau and Lukashenka’s aide Nadzeya Katkavets.
“This shows that you are treading the same ground where the president is more often and where it is closer to the road. You don’t go into the backwoods. If you dared to land the president on this field, then the rest of your fields must be in a terrible state,” Lukashenka concluded.
He was shown the “Haviady-Agra” farm and briefed on the situation. Lukashenka threatened to visit more of the “backwoods.”
“Put the region on a war footing and start working. Otherwise, this will be our last conversation,” he warned.
After that, Lukashenka was taken to the “Diana” farm, which is run by a longtime acquaintance of his. A report was presented there on the potato harvest and Belarusian-bred varieties. Lukashenka demanded that potato cultivation be expanded.
“We need to grow more potatoes in Belarus. There is interest in our potatoes both in Russia and Uzbekistan. The government has been tasked with finding markets, and determining where to grow potatoes. Especially since we have enough seed potatoes,” he said.
“What kind of Bulbashi are you if you don’t produce potatoes?” Lukashenka exclaimed.
