On Sept. 2, Aliaksandr Lukashenka heard a report from Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn and gave instructions “to consolidate new agreements with Russia.”
The tasks concerned the implementation of specific agreements in various areas, including energy, industrial cooperation and agriculture, as well as plans for further cooperation, Lukashenka’s press service reported.
In his report, Turchyn noted GDP growth and positive trends in a number of sectors, while also drawing attention to certain problems requiring prompt action by government bodies.
The prime minister described the situation in the Belarusian industrial sector as uneven. According to the prime minister, many industrial enterprises are operating steadily and overcoming difficulties, but some problems remain in the engineering sector.
“As in the economy as a whole, the situation in industry is uneven. There are a number of industrial sectors that are operating quite successfully under difficult conditions. However, the engineering sector is currently experiencing problems for both objective and subjective reasons.
But we are effectively helping our enterprises on a daily basis, lending a hand where necessary. The condition for our support is that an enterprise must prove to us that it has taken all measures, including substantial cost optimization and a reduction in the cost of manufactured products. Only in this case do we meet them halfway on certain issues, providing assistance”, the prime minister said.
Turchyn said Lukashenka had set tasks to implement the agreements reached in talks with Vladimir Putin and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“The heads of state effectively approved the agreements reached by the governments of Belarus and Russia. The agenda was very broad — it included cooperation in the energy sector, industrial cooperation, the implementation of joint integration projects and cooperation in agriculture. The president gave a number of specific instructions to finalize the agreements, consolidate them, and also regarding our further cooperation. The economic situation is difficult but manageable. We see what needs to be done. I think we have every prospect of successfully completing this year”, Turchyn said following the meeting.
Turchyn gave a positive assessment of current Belarusian-Russian relations.
“We were effectively able to reach agreement on virtually all issues. I think that, in the medium term, these agreements will be consolidated and we will successfully implement them”, he said.
