Alyaksandr Lukashenka did not refrain from making threats toward neighboring countries in his interview with RT. As before, he emphasized his readiness to launch retaliatory strikes in the event of aggression against Minsk. According to him, the full arsenal of Belarusian and Russian weapons would be used, since losing Belarus is unacceptable for Moscow.
“As for America, I do not think the Americans aim to wage war against Belarus. Here, on the contrary, based on the contacts I have with people close to Trump, not only politicians but people personally close to Trump, I understand that even if the Americans wanted to fight us, God forbid, they would do so from the territory of the Baltic states, Poland, and so on.
Since we have touched on this painful topic. I already swore to myself that I would not talk about it, but nevertheless, my task is to warn my neighbors: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and perhaps to some extent Ukraine — God forbid they commit aggression against Belarus. We do not want war, we are not going to fight them.
No wars from Belarusian territory against Poland and Lithuania are possible. We are not going to do this unless we are dragged into this war and have to respond. We do not want this. If you want this and decide on it, then we will defend ourselves with every possible means available to us. This does not mean that tomorrow, if some confrontation begins, we will immediately strike those countries through which or from whose territory aggression is carried out against us with nuclear weapons. We have enough other weapons to counter this. But if we see that this threatens the existence of Belarus, then not only we, but also, in accordance with our treaty with the Russian Federation, there will be serious consequences. And we will use everything we have.
Why do you think I brought this tactical nuclear weapon here and stirred up the whole world and frightened someone? No, it is a factor of our protection, our security. It is a factor. And add to that everything the Russian Federation has. We are their closest allies. Losing Belarus today is unacceptable for Russia. As we used to say, the enemy would then stand in Smolensk, near Moscow. This is unacceptable for Russia. And besides, we are allies, we are legally bound to one another. And Russia has directly stated that it would use its full arsenal of weapons in defense of Belarus.
The whole world knows this. America knows it and Europe knows it. Therefore, a clash with Belarus is a clash with Belarus and Russia. And an appropriate military grouping has been created in western Russia that will instantly support the Belarusian army. And what kind of weapons they have, you know. Therefore, we do not want war,” Lukashenka said.
The interviewer asked him how he assesses the likelihood of a military confrontation with European neighbors.
“No, it is impossible. At least for now, they do not want it. Time will show what happens tomorrow. The world is so turbulent, so unpredictable, that it is unclear and unknown what will happen tomorrow, let alone the day after tomorrow. Today they do not want this, because it would end badly for them, especially at a time when they do not have very good relations with the United States. They have nowhere to run, and they would have to run. Therefore, they do not want a clash with Belarus and Russia. Under no circumstances. I do not believe in it, whatever the rhetoric may be,” he said.
According to Lukashenka, NATO’s prospects are not so bad. The alliance will survive.
“No. No. Even if Trump decides that NATO is finished, he will not have enough time to carry it out. Other people will come who will save NATO. And Trump and his people understand that NATO is not only warheads and American money. It is a colossal foothold of the United States together with its allies on the Eurasian continent,” he said.
