Live Grenades and TNT Found in Poachers’ Possession Near Slauharad

Officers from the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora discovered weapons and ammunition in the possession of two residents of Slauharad who were caught fishing illegally.

The two men came to the inspectors’ attention on suspicion of poaching, and 180 meters of fishing nets were seized from them. During a search of one of the fishermen’s homes, an entire arsenal was discovered and confiscated:

• more than 20 kg of TNT (blocks and demolition charges), about 400 g of gunpowder, and detonating cord;
• 80 electric detonators, 9 fuzes, detonator caps, and UZRGM grenade fuzes;
• 3 45 mm artillery shells, RG-42, RGD-5, and F-1 grenades, and a rifle grenade;
• an unregistered Tokarev rifle and an unregistered IZH-58 shotgun;
• more than 750 rounds of ammunition of various calibers (7.62 mm, 12-gauge, and 16-gauge);
• a metal detector.

The investigation is being conducted by the 11th Directorate of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption (GUBOPiK). Authorities are considering whether to open a criminal case under the article concerning unlawful acts involving weapons and explosives.
