On November 11, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry summoned a representative of the Belarusian embassy. A strong protest was lodged over ongoing violations of Lithuania’s airspace by Belarus, which Vilnius regards as hybrid attacks. Lithuania warned that the closure of border checkpoints with Belarus could be extended.
According to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, balloons launched from Belarus again violated Lithuania’s airspace on November 8 and 10, creating a threat to civil aviation and public safety.
The Foreign Ministry said that if violations of Lithuania’s state border by Belarus continue, Vilnius reserves the right to extend restrictions on crossings at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border for a longer period or to introduce additional measures.
The Lithuanian side also demanded that Belarus immediately take steps to prevent such hybrid attacks from its territory.
