Lithuania To Check Origin Of All Transit Grain From Russia And Belarus

Lithuania will check the origin of all grain transported in transit from Russia and Belarus. The checks will cover both feed and food grain.

“A single inspection should apply to all consignments of grain from Russia and Belarus, regardless of their destination. We must do everything to ensure that our country’s infrastructure is not used to transit stolen Ukrainian grain”, Lithuanian Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Mažeika said, LRT reports.

Since May last year, Lithuania, together with Ukraine and the United Kingdom, has been implementing a Grain Verification Scheme, but it currently covers only feed grain.

The analysis makes it possible to establish the origin of the products. It is carried out to prevent the transportation of grain originating from occupied Ukrainian territories.
