Liquidation of Greek Catholic Parish in Orsha Confirmed

The liquidation of a Greek Catholic parish in Orsha has been confirmed in Belarus. As Katolik.life reports, following the re-registration of religious organizations, 12 Greek Catholic parishes remain in the country.

According to updated data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, the Parish of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in Orsha is in the process of liquidation. The procedure began on July 1 following a ruling by the Vitsyebsk Regional Court.

The liquidation of the parish was reported unofficially in the summer of 2026, but no documentary evidence was available at the time. Until recently, the parish was still listed as active in the register. The Greek Catholics did not have their own church in Orsha and held services at the local Roman Catholic church.

According to the updated data, 12 Greek Catholic parishes are currently active in Belarus: four in Minsk, two in Vitsyebsk, and one each in Hrodna, Mahiliou, Homiel, Maladzechna, Polatsk and Lida.

Earlier, the liquidation process was launched for all three Greek Catholic communities in the Brest Region: in Brest, Baranavichy and Ivatsyevichy.
