Lithuania’s National Association of Road Carriers Linava said it does not have confirmed data on a mass return of trucks stranded in Belarus and has urged companies to provide official information on the situation.
“At present, a situation has developed in which data on vehicles detained in Belarus that are publicly used by state institutions are interpreted inaccurately or do not reflect the real scale of the situation. In order to avoid various interpretations and to ensure factual accuracy, it is necessary to collect unified, reliable and officially company-confirmed information,” the association said.
In this regard, the association has again appealed to all Lithuanian carriers — both Linava members and companies outside the organisation — asking them to submit officially confirmed data on trucks that were or remain detained in Belarus.
“These data are also necessary for possible legal actions — only after they are submitted does a real opportunity arise to consider compensation claims,” Linava said.
Earlier, on December 23, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė said that a significant share of trucks belonging to Lithuanian carriers that had been blocked in Belarus had already returned to operation.
“We have information that a significant number of trucks are already continuing to operate, travelling between Lithuania and Belarus, a small number are still in Belarus, we are working on this, but the situation is being resolved gradually,” she said.
Ruginienė did not specify how many trucks had already resumed operations on their routes.
