Latvia Plans to Extend Ban on Irregular Bus Services to Belarus

The Latvian government plans to extend for another year the ban on international irregular passenger bus services through border checkpoints with Belarus and Russia.

According to Delfi, the current restrictions expire on October 31, 2026. The ban is expected to be extended until October 31, 2027.

Latvia is also preparing legislation to prohibit regular and irregular passenger bus services to and from Belarus and Russia, as well as transit through Latvian territory to the two countries.

For now, Latvia’s regulator is reducing regular bus services by not renewing carriers’ permits to operate them. Almost no bus routes between Belarus and Latvia remain.
