Latvia Has One Bus Route Left to Russia. Services to Belarus Have Ended

Latvia has one remaining regular bus route to Russia. It connects Riga and Moscow and is operated by Norma-A under the Ecolines brand.

As LETA reported, citing the Latvian Road Transport Administration, the permit for the route is valid until January 9, 2027.

The administration is currently rejecting all applications for regular bus services to Belarus and Russia. A year ago, Latvia had four routes to Russia and three to Belarus.

As Reform.news previously reported, Dautrans’ license for the Riga-Vitsyebsk route expired on January 31 this year. Another company, Latlines, had two more licenses, which expired on February 26 and July 27, 2026.

Latvia had previously banned non-regular bus services to Belarus and Russia. In May this year, the country was considering a complete ban on regular bus services to Belarus and Russia. However, they will effectively cease altogether as early as January next year due to the policy of the Road Transport Administration, regardless of whether a legislative ban is introduced.

It should be noted that it is still possible to travel by bus from Belarus and Russia to Latvia, as services operated by carriers from Lithuania and Estonia continue to run. Passengers can use routes with a transfer.
