A large-scale corruption scheme involving the supply of electrical equipment has been uncovered in Belarus. Prosecutor General Dzmitry Hora said this in the National Assembly.
According to him, the scheme involved officials at organizations in industry, agriculture, housing and utilities, transport and road construction.
Bribes amounted to up to 10% of the cost of the equipment being purchased and reached 190,000 rubles. The total value of the bribes uncovered exceeded 750,000 rubles.
The number of people involved in the case was not disclosed.
Overall, 236 criminal cases have been opened over the past 18 months following inspections of compliance with anti-corruption legislation.
Following orders from the prosecutor’s office, more than 1,300 procedures worth a total of over 330 million rubles were canceled.
In addition, 210 legal entities were held liable for involvement in corruption. The total amount of fines imposed was 2 million rubles.
