Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov said he had discussed “pre-emptive actions” with Belarusian Defence Minister Viktar Khrenin in response to the deterioration of the international situation. At the same time, a number of political issues remain to be resolved by the countries’ supreme commanders-in-chief.
“The international situation continues to deteriorate. It remains extremely complicated. Not only is it complicated, but it is becoming increasingly unpredictable. We see what is happening in Europe and the Middle East. This requires pre-emptive actions,” Belousov said.
According to him, these issues were discussed at a meeting with Khrenin.
“What other actions and tasks should we set ourselves and resolve as quickly as possible at our level? There is a whole range of political issues that undoubtedly require decisions by the supreme commanders-in-chief,” the Russian defence minister said.
Belousov said joint measures were being taken to ensure the security of Belarus and Russia, including combat coordination of formations and military units within the regional force grouping and joint exercises, including those held under the CSTO framework, BelTA reports.
The Russian defence minister noted that 418 Belarusian service members are currently studying at Russian military universities.
“We continue to train military personnel at educational institutions run by the Russian Defence Ministry. At present, 418 Belarusian service members are studying at 24 military universities under a unified curriculum and training programmes.
Training in the most sought-after specialisations is organised at Russia’s Mulino Inter-Service Combat Training Centre. A total of 1,315 personnel have received training there in the interests of the Belarusian Armed Forces. We continue to pay increased attention to cooperation in the military-technical sphere,” he said.
