Journalist Khilmanovich’s Country Property Sold at Auction

The country property of journalist Uladzimir Khilmanovich, who was convicted in absentia, has been sold at auction on the fifth attempt.

The auction took place on June 23. Two bidders competed for the property. The winning bidder paid 3,242 Belarusian roubles.

The property — a former village club building in the village of Novasiolki in the Mosty District — was first put up for auction in November 2025. The initial asking price was 8,400 Belarusian roubles. The price was reduced at subsequent auctions.

“I long ago wrote off my property in Belarus. The club building itself is worth nothing, but it is located in a very picturesque place on the banks of the Neman River. I do not know who may have bought it — perhaps even someone from Russia, as citizens of that country often purchase real estate in attractive locations in Belarus,” Khilmanovich told the Belarusian Association of Journalists.

Khilmanovich’s apartment in Hrodna has also been put up for auction. Bidding is scheduled to take place on June 30.

Uladzimir Khilmanovich was sentenced in absentia to five years in a penal colony on charges of facilitating “extremist” activities (Part 1 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code) and participating in an “extremist” formation (Part 3 of Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code). In addition to the prison sentence, he was fined 1,000 basic units. The court ordered the sale of the journalist’s real estate to cover the fine.
