The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed that the decision of the International Olympic Committee’s executive board does not change its position regarding the suspended membership of the Belarusian Tennis Federation and the Russian Tennis Federation.
The issue of the Belarusian Tennis Federation’s membership will be reviewed at the ITF Annual General Meeting in October in accordance with the organization’s constitutional procedures, the federation said in a statement.
As previously reported, on Thursday the IOC Executive Board called on international sports federations and competition organizers to allow Belarus to return to international competitions, while maintaining restrictions against Russia. The IOC justified its position by stating that the National Olympic Committee of Belarus “has a good reputation and complies with the Olympic Charter,” and that Belarusian athletes have competed in major events as neutral athletes since 2023 without incidents.
The National Olympic Committee of Belarus welcomed the IOC decision and expressed hope that it would serve as a guideline for international sports federations.
Earlier, it was reported that the IOC recommendation had also been rejected by World Athletics.
