During comprehensive command-and-staff exercises conducted by the Belarusian Interior Ministry in the Homiel region, security forces practiced additional scenarios involving the search for a “sabotage and reconnaissance group” and the deployment of a special-purpose unit to another region.
According to the scenario, police received a report of people in military uniforms in the area of the Mazyr oil refinery. An Interior Ministry internal troops rifle battalion was deployed to search for them, while fighters from SOBR, “Berkut” and officers from the local district police department were also involved. In a wooded area, canine handlers and bomb disposal specialists discovered a weapons cache containing firearms, ammunition and a drone. Access roads were blocked by officers from the Department of Protection. Four simulated suspects, who had split up and gone in different directions, were detained within several hours.
The second unscheduled task involved the deployment of the “Hrom” special-purpose unit from Mahiliou to the Homiel area. According to the scenario, the convoy encountered resistance along the route, making it impossible to continue moving in vehicles. The fighters left their transport and covered about three kilometers on foot in full gear.
The Interior Ministry said that the unit arrived in the designated area within the required timeframe and proceeded to carry out its further tasks.
Deputy Interior Minister and commander of the internal troops Mikalai Karpiankou called the exercises in the Homiel region the largest in the series of command-and-staff exercises. According to him, the personnel successfully completed the additional tasks. He also said that a female servicemember was among those who covered the three-kilometer distance over rough terrain while carrying equipment and gear weighing about 25 kilograms.
