Security forces searched the Minsk apartment of Stalinist repression researcher Ihar Stankevich. He learned about the search from his former wife, from whom he has been divorced for 18 years, the Viasna Human Rights Centre reported.
An unidentified person called Stankevich from his former wife’s phone. The caller did not identify himself and claimed that Stankevich was allegedly “recruiting people in order to receive grants for it”.
Stankevich lives in exile. He said his relatives were facing pressure from security forces. Some have had DNA samples taken, while others are periodically subjected to searches and questioned about the researcher’s whereabouts and activities.
