Two people were detained with marijuana at the Latvian-Belarusian border, the State Customs Committee (SCC) reported. One of the detainees is a German citizen.
The German national was entering Belarus through the Grigorovshchina checkpoint in a Fiat Ducato van. During customs inspection, a sniffer dog alerted officers to the possible presence of illegal substances. A search of the man’s belongings and vehicle revealed four small bags and a container with marijuana. Forensic analysis confirmed the substance to be marijuana, with a total weight of 12 grams.
At the same checkpoint, another sniffer dog signaled a man arriving from Latvia and residing in Estonia. His citizenship has not been specified. In the armrest compartment of his Toyota RAV4, officers found a factory-sealed tobacco package containing a mixture of marijuana and plant material weighing more than 8 grams. The driver was reportedly under the influence of drugs.
In the first case, the Vitebsk Customs Office opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code (“Illegal cross-border transportation of narcotic substances”). In the second case, materials were transferred to the Investigative Committee to decide on the initiation of criminal proceedings.
