Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a resident of St. Petersburg for sending an armor plate to Belarus. Local media reported this with reference to the regional office of the FSB.
The man has become a suspect in a criminal case under Part 1.1 of Article 226.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (smuggling of weapons).
“It is alleged that he sent an armor plate to Belarus that can be used in the manufacture of weapons and military equipment. This item is classified as dual-use goods and is subject to export control,” the FSB press service said.
It was also reported that the suspect sold body armor and helmets, including to Russian participants in the war against Ukraine. Tests showed that the equipment was of poor quality.
Investigative actions are ongoing.
