The Brest Transport Prosecutor has authorised the pre-trial detention of a 57-year-old foreign national who was detained at the border carrying a large amount of cash.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the man was detained on June 12. During an inspection, customs officers found more than $159,000 in his luggage and document bag.
“According to the suspect’s explanation, he was transporting cash he had earned in order to purchase housing where his relatives live,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
A criminal case has been opened against the man under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code.
