Foreigner Fails To Declare $61,000 On Entry To Belarus And Is Placed In Custody

A foreign national attempted to bring $61,200 into Belarus without declaring it, hiding the cash in a jacket pocket. The trip ended with a criminal case.

In April this year, the 59-year-old man was travelling on a Kaliningrad–Adler train. Upon entering Belarus, he did not declare the cash. Belarusian customs officers discovered an amount equivalent to $61,200 in his jacket pocket and initiated criminal proceedings, the Hrodna regional prosecutor’s office reported.

As the man has no permanent place of residence in Belarus, he has been placed in custody.
