Denmark has issued its first foreigner’s passport to a Belarusian citizen without refugee status. The information was reported by the “People’s Embassies of Belarus,” citing the association “Talaka — Syabry Belarusi u Danii.”
“We have great news: after two years of persistent and intensive work, the first foreigner’s passport has been issued in Denmark to a Belarusian citizen. This event marks an important milestone both for the Belarusian community in Denmark and for Belarusians who, for political reasons, cannot обращаться to the Belarusian authorities.
The issuance of the document is the result of extensive joint work by a group of activists from Talaka. An important role was played by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her office, as well as the attention of the Danish authorities and state institutions,” the statement said.
The association expressed gratitude to Denmark’s foreign minister, the parliamentary ombudsman, representatives of political parties, the media and Danish experts.
“For Belarusians in Denmark, this decision has not only practical but also symbolic significance. The foreigner’s passport makes it possible to travel legally and handle everyday matters without the risk of contacting the Belarusian authorities. At the same time, it confirms that Denmark truly supports people who stand up for democratic values and human rights,” the association said.
