Finland will contribute an additional €100,000 to the International Humanitarian Fund, which finances assistance to people affected by repression in Belarus. Tsikhanouskaya’s Office reported this following meetings between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Foreign Ministry State Secretary Pasi Rajala.
This is Finland’s second contribution to the International Humanitarian Fund.
The meeting also addressed further efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, the security situation in Belarus and the risks of the country being drawn further into the war against Ukraine. Tsikhanouskaya and Finland’s Foreign Ministry State Secretary also discussed issues affecting Belarusians in Finland, including expired passports, documents and legalisation.
“I thank Finland for its consistent solidarity with Belarusians. It is especially important that this support is translated into concrete assistance to people — political prisoners, those released and families affected by repression. We must be prepared for new releases in advance so that a person leaving prison immediately receives the necessary support,” Tsikhanouskaya said.
