The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has lifted restrictions on Belarusian and Russian basketball players, while clubs and national teams remain suspended from official tournaments for now. The decision was made in line with recommendations from the International Olympic Committee.
The lifting of restrictions applies to all players, coaches, referees and other officials in 5-on-5 and 3×3 basketball.
“Russian and Belarusian individual players can participate and officials can be nominated in all FIBA competitions with immediate effect,” FIBA reports.
FIBA also said it would work closely with the IOC and Olympic federations to address logistical and security issues related to the return of Belarusian and Russian clubs and national teams to competitions.
