Здание КГБ Беларуси в Минске
The Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) has updated its list of people “involved in terrorist activities.” Another six Belarusian citizens have been added to it, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.
Among the new names on the list are political prisoners Dzmitry Korsakau and Tatsiana Korsakava. The married couple from Minsk were convicted on charges of “high treason” and “arms smuggling.”
Dzmitry Korsakau was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Tatsiana Korsakava received a 12-year sentence. They were also each fined 50,000 rubles.
The updated KGB list also includes Andrei Sheika, Dzmitryi Maroz, Artsiom Merkel and Katsiaryna Mankevich.
A total of 1,476 people are currently on the “terrorist list.” Of them, 725 are Belarusian citizens.
It should be recalled that the Belarusian authorities use charges of extremism and terrorism to target political opponents and dissent in general.
