Eurasian Development Bank Forecasts Belarusian GDP Growth of 2.1% for the Year

Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) forecast that the Belarusian economy will grow by 2.1% for the year, according to the bank’s weekly review of the economies of its member states.

Last week, Belstat reported that Belarus’s GDP had increased by 1.9% in January–September. The EDB identified domestic demand and the transport sector among the factors driving growth.

“Trade remains one of the key drivers, growing by 4.0% year-on-year, up from 3.9%, supported by consumer demand. Retail trade turnover increased by 8.7% year-on-year, amid an 8.2% rise in real disposable household income in January–August. GDP growth was also supported by an expansion in transport services, which grew by 4.8% year-on-year, up from 4.4%, as passenger traffic increased by 7.6% year-on-year. Industrial output rose by 0.5% year-on-year, following growth of 0.2% in January–August,” the EDB said.

These trends informed the bank’s forecast.

“Under these conditions, we expect GDP to grow by around 2.1% for 2026 as a whole,” the analysts concluded.
