The Ukrainian monitoring channel «eRadar» said it had detected four relay stations that were used for communication with and control of attack drones over the territory of Belarus.
According to the channel, the relay stations were detected over the past and current weeks in the areas of Khoiniki, Dzierbinki, Makhnovichy and Buda-Safieuka. The authors claim that the deployed network made it possible to extend the drones’ flight range and control them in real time over a considerable distance.
“The deployed network of relay stations significantly increased the drones’ flight range, allowing them to reach as far as the border with Poland. According to available information, it was precisely thanks to these relay stations that operators could control UAVs in real time and strike a train and fuel stations near the Polish border”, the statement said.
The resource notes that the distance from the most remote relay station detected in the Buda-Safieuka area to Lutsk is just over 250 km.
In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave Aliaksandr Lukashenka one week to switch off relay stations for Russian drones, warning that otherwise Ukraine would destroy them itself. Several days later, Zelenskyy said the relay stations had been switched off. On June 30, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said Belarus had switched on one relay station but would not do so again.
In mid-July, Ukrainian Defense Minister’s adviser Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov suggested that Russia might continue to use relay stations in Belarus from time to time to direct attack drones.
Last week, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Oleh Ivashchenko said that relay stations in Belarus had resumed operations.
The day before, head of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service Andrii Demchenko said that an attack by Russian drones on the Yahodyn border crossing on the Ukrainian-Polish border had been carried out with Belarusian support.
