Belarus’ Energy Ministry is still negotiating the construction of the third unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. Energy Minister Dzianis Maroz told Belarusian television that the construction timeline could be finalized soon.
“The decision to build the third unit was made by our president. Moreover, he instructed us not only to build the third unit here, at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant site, because all the infrastructure has been created here, there are capabilities, expertise and people. He also said that we need to work on the construction of a second nuclear power plant in our country.
Therefore, we are working on both of these projects today. As for the third unit, we are currently engaged in very close negotiations with the Rosatom state corporation. I am confident that we will finalize them soon and, as part of some agreement, will be able to establish the parameters and specific timelines for implementing this project,” Maroz said.
In the spring, Belarusian and Russian officials said that contracts for the third power unit should be signed by the end of this year.
In December last year, Maroz said the third power unit could be commissioned in 2035. By that time, the domestic power system will be ready to integrate it. According to him, the third unit was planned to be commissioned in 2035-2038.
