Moldova’s Ministry of Defence reported an unidentified object crossing the country’s airspace amid a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
According to the National Army’s Air Operations Service, the object crossed into Moldova at 20:45 from the direction of the Ukrainian settlement of Shershentsy, heading towards Slobozia-Rașcov. It then proceeded towards the village of Țipova in Moldova’s Rezina District.
The object disappeared from monitoring systems near Brănești in Orhei District. Moldova’s central airspace was closed while it was passing through. At 21:07, airspace in the central zone was reopened.
Monitoring of the country’s airspace is ongoing.
Moldovan police reported a drone explosion in Orhei District. No injuries have been reported. After the object exploded near the road between the settlements of Ivancea and Brănești, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. Traffic on the road was temporarily halted in both directions, and vehicles were stopped outside the danger zone.
Specialists from the police technical and explosives unit have been dispatched to examine the object and establish the circumstances of the incident.
Police urged drivers to avoid this stretch of road and use alternative routes. Residents were also asked not to approach unknown objects or their fragments and to report them by calling 112.
This is already the third drone to have entered Moldovan territory today. The first was spotted at around 5:40 and subsequently crashed in the Anenii Noi area. Later, Moldova’s Ministry of Defence reported another jet-powered drone that entered the country’s airspace from the east, via the territory of the unrecognised breakaway region of Transnistria.
